Francis X. Kitaka – Board Chairman

Francis X. Kitaka is the Chairman of the Boards of Quality Chemical Industries and Quality Chemicals Limited. From 1973 to 1990, Mr Kitaka was the General Manager at Coopers Uganda and a director of the affiliated Wellcome Foundation on the U.K. In 1990 he acquired Coopers Uganda and ran it as Chairman and CEO until 2005. Francis X. Kitaka has a degree in Veterinary medicine from Makerere University and a degree in Biochemistry from Aberdeen University.

Emmanuel Katongole – Director, Chief Executive Officer

Emmanuel Katongole is a 51 year old Ugandan who served as Founder Managing Director and Shareholder of Quality Chemicals Ltd from 1997 to 2007. He is currently the Founder CEO and Shareholder of Quality Chemical Industries Ltd. This company manufactures HIV/AIDS drugs and Anti-Malaria drugs. This plant is the first such WHO Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) plant in sub-Saharan Africa.

Emmanuel is further involved in the food and beverage production industry under Vero Food Industries where he serves as Founder Company Chairman and Shareholder. He is also a Shareholder and Director of Tinosoft Ltd which is a local Uganda IT company associated to a number of leading International Information Technology (IT) Companies.

Emmanuel was a finalist for the East Africa Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 Awards. He earned the Africa Business Leadership Award 2012 hosted by the Africa Development Bank and he received the 2012 Africa Entrepreneurship Award hosted by the Africa Leadership Network.

Emmanuel Katongole holds a Master of Arts Degree in Economic Policy and Planning (MA-EPP) and a Bachelor of Statistics degree (B.Stat. Hons) both of Makerere University Kampala, Uganda. He has had a number of business related post graduate training courses both in Uganda and in Europe.

Frederick Mutebi Kitaka –Director Finance, Chief Financial Officer

Frederick Mutebi is the Chief Financial Officer and a founding director at Quality Chemical Industries. Prior to founding QCIL in 2005, Fredrick was the Finance Director at Quality Chemicals from 2002-2005. Prior to QCL, Fredrick was the Financial Controller at Coopers Uganda from 1994 to 2002. Frederick holds a BSc Physics and Mathematics degree from Makerere University and a degree in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Buckingham.

George W. Baguma – Director Marketing, Chief Commercial Officer

George Baguma is the Chief Commercial Officer and a founding director at Quality Chemical Industries. Prior to founding QCIL in 2005, George was the Chief Commercial Officer at Quality Chemicals Ltd from 2000 to 2005. Prior to QCL, George was the Deputy Commissioner at the Directorate of Animal Resources in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries. George has a degree and postgraduate diploma from Makerere University and a master’s and doctorate degree from Imperial College in London.

Zain Latiff –Board Director, Principle, TLG Capital

Zain is the founder and principal of TLG Capital, a private equity firm that provides growth capital to businesses in frontier markets. TLG Capital recently purchased a stake in QCIL. Prior to founding TLG Capital, Zain was an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs in the New Markets division focussing on Sub-Saharan Africa. Zain has also worked at Merrill Lynch as well as HSBC where he has gained experience in investing in markets in Africa. Zain holds a Masters degree in Finance from Cass Business School and currently sits on a number of investee companies boards.

Beth Mandel –Board Director, Partner, Capitalworks Investment Management

Beth is a co founder and partner at Capitalworks Investment Management who recently purchased a stake in QCIL. Prior to founding Capitalworks Beth was the Managing Director and country head of Morgan Stanley in South Africa and she has significant industry experience. Beth has studied at both the University of California, Berkeley as well as the University of Oxford.
