Duovir – N
Duovir- N is a lamivudine, nevirapine and zidovudine combination drug. It is a first line treatment drug for HIV/AIDS. It is available in monthly doses of two (2) tablets a day.


Duovir
This flexible combination of two gives room for optioning the choice of Non- nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTIs, depending on patient’s treatment rational).


Effavir 600

Efavirenz belongs to a class of drugs known as non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) of HIV-1. It is a non competitive inhibitor of reverse transcriptase and does not significantly inhibit HIV-2 reverse transcriptase or cellular DNA polymerase α, β, γ or δ.


It is recommended that Efavir be taken on an empty stomach, preferably at bed time. The increased concentrations observed after administration of Efavirenz with food may lead to increase in frequency of adverse effects. Dosing at bed time may improve the tolerability of central nervous system symptoms.

Nevimune

This drug contains 200mg of Nevirapine and may be used in combination with other ARV’s for the treatment of HIV infections.


New Antiretrovirals to be manufactured by QCIL

1. Viraday Tablets.

This is a fixed dose triple combination therapy used to treat HIV infection. It contains three antiretrovirals: tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg), efavirenz (600mg), and emtricitabine (200mg). It is a first line treatment for HIV/AIDS recommended by WHO and taken in doses of one pill a day.

2 Tenvir –EM Tablets

The active pharmaceutical ingredient contained in Tenvir–EM Tablets is Emtricitabine 200 mg and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate 300 mg. Tenvir-EM is used in combination with other antiretroviral medications for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults. It is also used to treat chronic hepatitis B infection. It is a first line treatment for HIV/AIDS recommended by WHO.

3. Duomune Tablets

Duomune is indicated in combination with at least one other antiretroviral medication for the treatment of HIV infection.It is a fixed dose combination of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg and lamivudine 300mg.It is a once a day pill.It is recommended by WHO as a first line treatment for HIV infections.

4. Ciplin

This broad spectrum antibiotic contains sulfamethoxazole 400/800mg and trimethoprim 80/160mg. It is also known also cotrimoxazole. They are used to treat various lung, bladder, ear infections among others caused by bacteria. Ciplin is also be used to prevent bacteria related opportunistic infections specifically common amongst immunocompromised patients. It is recommended as a first line for prevention(prophylaxis) of pneumocystis carinii pneumonia infections common in HIV/AIDS patients .

5. Ciprofloxacin 500

This broadpsectrum antibiotic contains Ciprofloxacin 500mg .It is used in the treatment of various infections caused by bacteria.Ciprofloxacin is indicated as a first line treatment for typhoid and in the management of other gastrointestinal infections.It is also effective in both uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract and lower respiratory tract infections and a range of other indications (e.g. eye infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and gonorrhoea).

6. Fluconazole

This is prescribed for treatment of superficial and systemic fungal infections .These include candidiasis,crytococcal meningitis,tinea infections among others It is also used for the prevention(prophylaxis) of cryptococcal meningitis in immunocompromised patients such as HIV/AIDS patients.It is available in tablets of 50mg,100mg and 200mg .

7. Lumartem Forte

This fixed dose combination consists of artemether 40mg and Lumefantrine 240mg strength in each tablet.It is recommended by WHO for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria.
